Uzbekistan – a country of fresh impressions

The intermountain basin in the upper reaches of the Syr Darya and its origins, surrounded by mountain systems of the Pamir-Alai and Tien Shan is called the Fergana valley. The valley presents all types of landscapes. Here you can see the dark gray sands and emerald-green cotton fields, high alpine meadows and peaks, decorated with snow.

For example, ancient Khorezm not in vain is called the country of thousand castles. The most famous castles are Toprak Kala and Ayaz Kala.

Toprak Kala

The excavations, and indeed the area of Toprak Kala fortress is huge. In some places towers, foundation of the inner city that provide a glimpse of the past greatness of the extinct civilization, preserved.

Toprak-kala (dusty fortress or earthen city) is the ancient capital of Khorezm, during the reign of the Afrigids. The fortress is located in the plain, closed in the north by the mountains Sultan Uizdaga.

Researchers believe that Toprak Kala is a dynastic center, one of the royal residences of the Khorezmshakhs. The city is strictly laid out and circled the perimeter of strong walls on a high base, which protects them from destruction battering machines. The only entry, protected with complex facilities, was located in the middle of the south wall.

According to archaeologists Ayaz-kala fortress was one of the strongest forts on the outskirts of the Kyzylkum desert. Taking an important strategic position on the outskirts of Khorezm, it was a part of the system of border fortresses defending the oasis from the desert. All of the fortresses were located on a visible distance from each other, in order conveniently to transmit signals about the approaching enemy.
